While the AICPA welcomed Treasury’s official guidance to extend the due date for making tax payments, it decried the agency’s failure to extend the April 15 tax filing deadline.
In an official statement, AICPA President and CEO Barry Melancon, CPA, CGMA, argued that Treasury’s guidance does not reflect the real-world difficulties taxpayers and tax practitioners are experiencing in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The AICPA urges Treasury to extend the tax filing deadline immediately.
