The Social Security Administration (SSA) has closed all Social Security offices to the public for in-person service starting Tuesday, March 17. They will continue to offer phone service.
This decision protects the population SSA serves — older Americans and people with underlying medical conditions — and their own employees during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. It should be noted that SSA is still able to provide critical services.
SSA’s secure and convenient online services remain available at www.socialsecurity.gov. Local offices will also continue to provide critical services over the phone. The agency is working closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), state and local governments and other experts to monitor COVID-19 and will let the public know as soon as they are able to resume in-person service.
