In response to disruptions caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the WICPA and other state CPA societies are working closely with the AICPA for the quick release of details regarding pending tax filing and payment relief.
On March 11, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and President Donald Trump announced that the administration would instruct the IRS to extend the tax filing deadline for certain individuals and businesses affected by the coronavirus. Extending certain filing deadlines along with payment and interest relief are critical to alleviate the uncertainty about this year’s tax filing season.
The WICPA and AICPA are urging the Treasury Department and the IRS to provide filing, payment and interest relief to all taxpayers. The AICPA continues to be in close contact with the IRS to make clear how urgent this issue is for membership.
The AICPA anticipates an announcement regarding a 90-day extension to the tax filing deadline this week. The WICPA will continue to keep members updated as more information comes in.
