Initial statistics from the IRS show taxpayers aren’t rushing to file early returns this year.
Tax season opened on Jan. 27, one day earlier than in 2019. In the first week of tax season, the IRS received a little more than 15.7 million individual tax returns – a 1.6% drop from the 16 million returns received in the first week of the 2019 tax season. The IRS also reported a 2.7% drop in the rate of processed tax returns in the first week.
