Investors will be able to buy a new 20-year bond in the first half of 2020, the U.S. Treasury announced Jan. 16.
Faced with financing budget deficits topping $1 trillion annually, Treasury introduced the 20-year bond after gathering feedback from a large number of market participants.
Currently, the government sells 10-year notes and 30-year Treasury bonds. More details are expected at the Treasury’s quarterly refunding news conference on Feb. 15.
