The AICPA’s Statements on Standards for Tax Services (SSTSs) haven’t been updated for the last ten years, but the tax environment has transformed dramatically since then.
The current SSTSs don’t reflect today’s practice environment. They don’t address issues like mobile client communications or new and emerging technologies like client portals and other digital infrastructures.
Recognizing an urgent need, the AICPA has formed a task force charged with reviewing and updating the current SSTSs and adding new standards to address the tax practitioner’s evolving work environment. They’re looking at issues around data security, taxpayer privacy, tax consulting and controversy work, conflicts of interest, transaction implementation and more.
The task force is requesting comments by July 31. Find out how you can provide your input into this important work.
