FTC report: Wisconsinites lost $106M to scams in 2024

Wisconsin consumers reported losing more than $106 million to scams in 2024, according to a new report from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

The FTC reported the losses came from 30,387 fraud reports, with a median loss of $357 per victim.

The most common type of fraud in Wisconsin was imposter scams, followed by identity theft, credit bureau issues, online shopping scams and bank-related fraud.

The data, collected from FTC’s Consumer Sentinel Network, includes reports from consumers, law enforcement agencies, the Better Business Bureau and industry groups.
