BOI injunction lifted; reporting deadline is Jan. 1, 2025

The initial deadline for companies to file beneficial ownership information (BOI) reports was reinstated Monday, Dec. 23, by an appellate court's emergency stay of an injunction pending appeal.

The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals granted the Department of Justice (DOJ) motion to lift an injunction put in place by a Dec. 3 district court ruling that the DOJ appealed.

"Until we hear otherwise, the BOI filing deadline is Jan. 1, 2025," Melanie Lauridsen, the AICPA's vice president–Tax Policy & Advocacy, said in a LinkedIn post.

The AICPA, WICPA and other state CPA societies have written numerous letters to Congress and the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), which enforces the Corporate Transparency Act, urging a delay in the reporting deadline. Read more.
