The IRS has announced that the renewal period for the 2025 preparer tax identification number (PTIN) is now open.
All current PTINs will expire on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024.The renewal fee is $19.75, which is non-refundable.
The IRS encourages tax preparers to use the online process, which takes about 15 minutes, while first-time applicants can also apply online.
The agency also offers a paper option, but processing may take up to six weeks. Enrolled agents must renew their PTIN annually to maintain active status. Read more.
