Consumer confidence rose to 6-month high in August

U.S. consumer confidence rose to a six-month high in August as more upbeat views of the economy and inflation offset waning optimism about the labor market. 

The Conference Board’s gauge of sentiment increased to 103.3 from an upwardly revised 101.9 a month earlier, data out Tuesday, Aug. 27, showed. 

Economists polled by the Wall Street Journal had forecast the index to register 101 in August, up from the initial July reading of 100.3. 

A measure that looks at how consumers feel about the economy right now improved to 134.4 in August from 133.1 in the prior month. 

Though the report's topline numbers all improved slightly from July, consumers continued to have mixed feelings about the economy. Read more.
