DOR: Third-party MTA users can close business tax accounts

July 12, 2024

The Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR) has introduced a new feature that enables third-party My Tax Account (MTA) users to request the inactivation of most business tax accounts.

Previously, only MTA users with Master or Account Manager access could close business tax accounts within the MTA system.

To use this new feature, navigate to the entity you wish to manage. Accounts eligible for inactivation will have a "Close Account" link next to them. Select the link, fill in the required fields, and submit the request. You will receive a confirmation email, and the DOR will inactivate the requested business tax accounts.

The DOR notes that this feature is limited to certain business tax types. Users cannot close all tax accounts through the MTA.

For questions about the new feature, contact the DOR at DORMyTaxAccountHelp@wisconsin.gov or call (608) 266-2776.
