In a new campaign to raise awareness among the tax community, the IRS renewed its warning to tax professionals about the increasing threat of identity theft.
Security threats against tax professionals remain a daily threat, the IRS said. Through the spring, the agency received reports of nearly 200 tax professional data incidents potentially affecting up to 180,000 clients.
The IRS said it will soon highlight a series of simple actions that tax professionals can take to protect their clients, including creating a security plan, staying on top of new scams, being aware of different phishing tactics and knowing the tell-tale signs of identity theft.
