The IRS issued regulations on Tuesday, May 14, that finalize the fee reduction for the application and renewal of preparer tax identification numbers (PTINs) to an $11 user fee plus an $8.75 third-party contractor fee, for a total annual fee of $19.75.
A federal court required the IRS to reduce the charge for preparer tax identification numbers last year ruling that the previous amount of $30.75 was excessive.
The final regulations adopt the text of interim final and proposed regulations issued in 2023 without change. The IRS received no comments on the interim final or proposed regulations, the agency said. Learn more.
