The IRS said Monday, April 17, that its average wait time for phone calls is now four minutes, down from 27 last year.
A funding boost from last year’s Inflation Reduction Act enabled the IRS to improve customer service all around for the 2023 tax season, the agency said.
IRS employees answered 2 million more calls than last year and served 100,000 more taxpayers in person, the agency stated.
Additionally, the IRS cleared its 2022 tax return backlog even as it digitalized 80 times more paper forms than last year. Read more.
