A new five-year strategic plan from the SEC calls for more focus on protecting the public against fraud, implementing robust regulations and supporting a diverse workforce.
The SEC oversees $100 trillion in capital markets, representing about 40% of the capital markets worldwide.
“We can’t take our leadership in capital markets for granted,” SEC Chair Gary Gensler states in the strategic plan. “Technology and business models always are changing, and it is important for our agency to evolve in kind.”
