After conducting a survey regarding Wisconsin occupational licensing requirements, the Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) recommends only 28 of more than 280 licenses either be eliminated or put under consideration—and the CPA license is not on the list. Results were reported by Action 2 News in Green Bay on Jan. 16.
More than 65,000 people answered the survey, which asked license holders, stakeholders and the public to rate the importance occupational licenses serve to protect citizens from harm or danger. Individuals had the opportunity to provide specific examples, compare other states and provide comments.
The list of licenses for possible elimination is included on page 50 of the Wisconsin Occupational Licensing Study Legislative Report. The recommendations affect just 0.007 percent of Wisconsin licensees.
