The IRS released a redesigned Form 1040 U.S. Individual Income Tax Return for tax year 2018. The new form, smaller than previous 1040s but not quite postcard-sized, replaces the current Form 1040 as well as Form 1040-A and Form 1040-EZ.
The 2018 Form 1040 uses a "building block" approach, so taxpayers with straightforward tax situations will only need to file Form 1040. If taxpayers need to provide supplemental information, they can use the six new numbered schedules. Although the form was simplified, the instructions remain lengthy at 117 pages.
