The IRS is returning more than a thousand employees who once processed tax returns and other paperwork back to their old jobs to help process its massive backlog during the busy season.
The agency’s current resources simply weren’t enough, Commissioner Chuck Rettig said in an email to employees Wednesday, Feb. 2.
Some of the 1,200 workers reassigned to the IRS will form its inventory surge team. The IRS expects to send back the reassigned employees to their current positions at the end of September. Read more.
