Financial Literacy:
small steps today to build a solid financial tomorrow
WICPA Financial Literacy Program
Financial illiteracy is a growing epidemic in the United States. Americans spend $1.22 for every dollar they earn. Statistics show that young Americans are in great need of financial literacy guidance.
The WICPA is focusing on financial literacy for high school, college and young professional audiences. New for 2009 is a program for elementary school students called the Reading Makes Cents Read-a-Thon.
Reading Makes Cents
CPAs will visit an elementary school class and read a money-themed book to promote financial literacy. This program will take place in April to tie in with Financial Literacy Month and Teach Children To Save Day.
Reality Stores
Wisconsin high schools host financial literacy events called Reality Stores. CPAs are needed to volunteer at these events.
Feed the Pig
By extending the reach of the CPA profession’s award-winning 360 Degrees of Financial Literacy initiative, the American Institute of CPAs, the Wisconsin Institute of CPAs, other state CPA societies and the Ad Council hope millions of young working Americans will Feed the Pig™. A brand new campaign teaches the importance of saving.
